By Jeremy Kinser Michal, your swarthy good looks make me think you're not a native Angeleno. Where are you from originally? I was born and raised in Czechoslovakia. It's called Slovakia now. I've literally traveled all over the globe. How did you decide to live in L.A.? It was the entertainment industry. I'd worked in film since I was 17 in Europe and I wanted to continue doing that. Then I came here and realized I didn't really want to do it anymore. [Laughs] Your Little Helper sounds like the greatest idea of all time. What inspired it? I'd worked as a personal assistant for people from all walks of life and in the high-end service industry for a couple of years. While working as a personal assistant, friends of friends and friends of my bosses would ask me to do things for them but I didn't always have time. And I knew I always wanted to be my own boss. So I presented this idea to a few friends who are well-established, and they thought it was a great idea, so I made it happen. How does your service work? People can just give us a call whenever they need us. If they just need help around the house, or if they need us for a project—like a garage that needs to be organized—that can take two or three days. Or it could be someone to drop off your dry cleaning or organize office files or go through your mail. Different people have different needs. I wanted this to be available to everybody. Even when I wasn't making alot of money I wanted to be able to have someone pick up flowers and drop them off at someone's door or have someone wait for a cable guy for four hours. I'd rather pay them to wait and do something that's more important to me than wasting half my day. So someone on your staff will really sit in my house and wait all day for the cable guy to come? Yes. I want this to be a win-win situation for everyone. We'll water your garden or organize your office while waiting for the cable guy. They don't just sit there. How many people work for you? Right now I have five people, and they're great. They're very versatile—they can work on a computer and dig up dirt. I want to make sure people are happy. We're all bonded and insured. Is any task too small for you? It's really a matter of what you need. It can be the smallest thing to the biggest project. Who uses your service? They're from all walks of life. It was hard to pinpoint just one group of people because I think this is a service that everybody needs. Film and TV executives are the perfect type of people because they work insane hours. We also work with hotel concierges to offer our services to out-of-town guests who need our help. Are you available at all hours? We're available everyday till 7 p.m. and after hours by request, but we need 24 hours notice. Say I need some late night Pinkberry, can I call you? [Laughs] Yes, it will be some expensive Pinkberry. If you want to impress somebody by getting Pinkberry delivered without getting out of bed, it will be worth it. Is there anything you guys won't do? If it's illegal, we won't do it. [Laughs] Can everyone afford Your Little Helper? Yes. We have great rates and work with everyone to make them happy. I think anybody can afford this service, and it's really worth it to hire us. I want people to understand that this is not a luxury service. We're accessible to everyone. |
